AYURVEDA is a life style or way of living rather than a treatment system as is the practice today.

Ayur-Jeevanam is anhumble beginning to implement the good deeds of Ayurvedic life practice at Namami-Purnagram.

In addition to the ambience of eco-friendly buildings, natural vegetation, Ayurvedic and alternate treatments, the day-to-day life also has to be assimilated with the nature. A guest staying at Purnagram will be provided an atmosphere and facilities for living close to the nature as mentioned in the classical Ayurvedic scriptures.

Following is a model plan worked out to achieve benefits of AYUR JEEVANAM

DAILY REGIMEN (DINACHARYA)

Starting from morning

  • Waking up in the early morning (Brahmemuhoortheuthishtet)
  • Voiding the excrements (Malotsargam)
  • Cleaning teeth (DanthaDhavanam) – with herbal tooth powder.
  • Scraping the tongue (JihwaNirlekhanam) – with herbal sticks – Coconut leaf sticks or neem stick
  • Face wash (MukhaDhavanam) with Luke warm decoction with Nalpamaram or Nenmenivaka followed by normal water.
  • Collirium (Anjanam) – with specially prepared anjanam.
  • Nasyam – nasal cleaning by PratimarsaNasyam – 1 or 2 drops of Anutailam.
  • Gargling (Kablam) / Mouth wash (Gandoosham) – with warm decoction of Thriphala or saline water.
  • Dhoomanam or Dhoomapanam – herbal steam inhalation with KARPOORA TULASI, CLOVES, PANI KOORKA LEAVES, LEMON GRASS OIL & TURMERIC or Herbal smoking through nostrils.
  • Treatment procedures as suggested by team of doctors.
  • Bath (Snanam) with Luke warm water medicated with herbal leaves for body and boiled and cooled water for head.
  • For scrubbing body and remove oils – herbal bathing powders
  • Application of natural perfumes made of Sandal, Jasmine, and Rose.
  • Dress code – loose cotton and light coloured clothes preferred.

Seasonal Regimen (RITUCHARYA)

    • For Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner traditional Kerala vegetarian food will be served
    • Following food articles as per individual body constitution will be selected and provided at prescribed timings during the stay at PURNAGRAM for healthy living.
  • Paneeyam – Herbal drinking water – throughout the day whenever required.
    • Herbal tea – Tea prepared out of medicinal herbs and condiments suitable for each type of body constitution – early morning.
    • Yoosham– Medicated Soup prepared out of vegetables, spices and condiments prescribed in Ayurvedic texts – before lunch.
    • Phalam– Commonly available Fruits are classified according to individual constitution and to be served as per the given chart – after dinner.
    • Rasam – Fresh juice of selected fruits & herbs –instead of evening tea.
  • Medicines & Treatments (OUSHADHAM)

    Treatment and medicines will be fixed considering following aspects.

    • 1. Medications forany ailments prevailing.
    • 2. Follow up treatments and medicines for ailments.
    • 3. Simple and long term follow up plan for constitutional disturbances.
    • 4. Lifestyle advices and Yoga, Meditation or any alternative therapies advised by concerned faculty.
    • 5. Advices for prevention of hereditary or occupational problems if any.
    • 6. Application of “Vaidya Jyothisham” for diagnosis and treatments and implementation of solutions suggested to overcome ill effects.
  • Mental and Spiritual refinement (ATMA MANO SUDHI)
    • Counseling for the problems during the course of stay at the centre.
    • Following “SADVRITTA” mentioned in Ayurvedic texts
    • Practice of Meditation and Yoga.
    • Listening to spiritual discourses.
    • Chanting devotional rhymes.

  • Notes:

    • ‘AYURJEEVANAM’ is only a guideline for natural living and not a compulsory condition for staying at Purnagram.
    • Purnagram should offer services for the follow up of above plan to guests with time to time guidance and suggestions regarding ‘Ayurjeevanam’

Abhyangam meaning ‘massage’ in Sanskrit, is one of the most important and universal Ayurvedic therapy. An important Dincharya or daily routine vital for maintaining a healthy lifestyle according to classic texts of Ayurveda. Abhayangam technique stimulates the lymphatic system of our body to expel toxins. This Ayurvedic Massage is well known for stimulating the production of lymphocytes, which are vital for maintaining the immune resistance of the human body. Regular Abhayangam Massage is important for toning-up immunity and for a rejuvenated, detoxified body. Relief from pain, increased energy levels, slow down of ageing is other well-known results of Abhayangam. Overall, this Ayurvedic form of massage bestows longevity.

Yoga & Laughter Yoga

The word ‘yoga’ literally means ‘fusion’

A union of the Atman or soul and Paramathman, the God which helps a human attain Moksha or liberation, the ultimate goal of life. Yoga is a fusion of body and mind through which the Athman embarks on a journey to achieve the salvation of heart & body, mind & soul.

The eight-fold yogic path to salvation:

  • 1) Yama or the control of senses
  • 2) Niyama or the rules of life
  • 3) Asana or the postures
  • 4) Pranayama or the control of breath
  • 5) Pratyahara or shedding of worldly lifestyle
  • 6) Dharana or focused concentration
  • 7) Dyanam or meditation
  • 8) Samadhi or salvation

Today, modern yogic practices are more about ‘Hath Yoga’ or the postures. The rest, which makes one an original Yogi, the master of Yoga, are neglected as a compromise with modern times.

One of the unique forms of Yoga called as “Laughter Yoga” is practiced routinely at Namami. Naturopathy - Healing Naturally

Naturopathy treatment is based on the universal fact that various functions of our body are guided by five primary forces of nature. They are: Jal or water, Vayu or air, Agni or fire, Akash or sky and Prithvi or earth. The ailments occur due to imbalance of these natural forces in our body. Acupressure

It’s an alternative therapy whereby manual pressure is applied to stimulate lines of energy on specific points of the body.

Acupuncture

Specific points along the lines of energy (meridians) are activated by inserting fine needles. This system of complimentary therapy is used for the treatment of various physical and mental conditions.

Physiotherapy

Treatments / Interventions

Cold Therapy or Cryotherapy

Cold therapy is highly effective for relieving pains and swellings, especially in acute and abrupt injuries. Unlike applying justice as is the usual practice; Cold Therapy includes a deep kneading massage (DKM) over and above ice pack application and ice massage.

Heat Therapy

Application of heat to enhance blood flow of a limb, especially at the site of injury, speeds-up healing. It also helps softens tight tissues relieving pain.

  • Hot packs, Paraffin wax bath, Infrared heat, Ultrasound and Diathermy are among several heating modes and devices available for Heat Therapy.

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation is used to prevent wasting of idle muscles (atrophy) in people suffering from paralysis. This stimulation also helps regain some degree of muscle strength after procedures like knee surgery. Muscles are shortened through electrical stimulation via electrodes placed strategically on the surface of the skin.

TENS

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)is an electrical stimulation by low currents transmitted through the electrodes placed on the skin surface using small battery-powered devices. Unlike normal electrical stimulation TENS does not result in muscle contraction and hence is ideal for temporary relief from pain.

Range of Motion (ROM) Exercises

Range of motion exercises are often prescribed to increase or maintain flexibility of your joints and to reduce stiffness. There several types of range of motion exercises often prescribed including the following

  • Active Assistive Range of Motion(AAROM) Exercises

Strengthening Exercises

Soft Tissue Mobilization

Mobilization of soft tissues through therapeutic massage is an integral a part of physiotherapy treatment. It relaxes the tight muscles, thus relieving pain and reducing swellings.

Namami Karma Zone & Namami Karma Sutra

According to the tenet of karma, very event that occurs will be followed by another. The existence of the first event and its energy causes recurrence. Whether this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant to others and oneself is determined by beneficial or harmful effects of the first. According to the theory of Karma, a beneficial event is energized by the wish for benefiting others. While a harmful event happens due to greed, conflict or delusions. Any event is not good by itself. It turns out to be so by the virtue of the energy of mental thoughts that accompany its cause.

Thus, the law of karma teaches us that a person who commits harmful acts is responsible for them and begets the results thereof. Thus every action of yours results in what happens to you later. Or it’s your thoughts and actions, which are responsible for what happens to you, good and bad. You have to pay for your karma; there is no escape from it.

Here are some of the Good Karmasas practiced in Namami Karma Zone and we call them ‘Namami Karma Sutra’:

What best can a guest expect when she plants the tree that belongs to her Nakshatra with her own hands amidst the chants of the Nakshtra Puja being performed by a Vedic Pandit.

Namami Gaushala- We serve the mother cow and its calf, give bath, offer food/fodder and perform Pujas where cows are garlanded and prayed as deities. We take special care in rearing the “Vechoor Cows”; a variety of Kerala cow that is getting extinct.

Namami Bird Feeding Zone- We have created special nests for the birds of different species to come and flock together by the river side. You listen to their natural chirping early in the morning. A special method of giving them the bird feed is provided to the guest.

Namami Fish Feeding Zone- We have carved out a special fish feeding pond in its very natural surroundings using the stream water. It is by the river side and after the natural water passing through the pond, its exited into the Periyar. Our guests can feed the fish with prior permission at this zone.

Namami Homa & Mantra Recitation- HOMA is a Sanskrit word. It is a technical term from the Vedic science of bioenergy denoting the process of removing the toxic conditions of the atmosphere through the agency of fire. This means healing and purifying of the atmosphere with fire as the medium. When this is accompanied by the recitation of Mantras, the purification and bliss is exceptional.

Namami Garden of Five Senses- Hearing, vision, feel, smell, and taste are the five traditionally known senses of perception. Sharper they are, the better. We have created this Garden within Namami Karma Zone where you can perfect your skill of the five senses without any disturbance.
